I started out writing this long winded post about how long ago I wanted to be an animator, got distracted by cartooning, turned that into career as a graphic designer/illustrator. But, who needs that, when I can sum it up in one sentence. Whew. Done. Easy.
So why a stop motion blog?
The marketing director at my place of employment, somewhat randomly, sent me an email with information about a stop motion iOS app (istopmotion). Curious, I took a look. Then I looked up some other info related to it. Next thing I know I was studying software to do stop motion with my DSLR (mind you, I hadn't shot one frame yet).
After that moment, my childhood aspirations exploded, and I slowly descended into a life of scouring youtube for every scrap of information I could find about stop motion, software, rigs, puppet building (lots and lots and lots of puppet building). Basically, I got bit by the bug, and now, as I write this, I've just finished a screen test with my first puppet. It's on. Not sure where I'm going with it, but I'm having fun.
Anyway. Short story long - I thought I ought to document the things I do. I'm doing it for my own record. But I'm also doing it because I know there is going to be a lot of trial and error, lots of learning, and probably some discovery along the way, and I think some folks out there my be able to benefit from the information that I uncover. Every tidbit of information that I have found on the internet has been like gold to me, so I just want to help folks out. Whether it's telling you what's failed, or what succeeded... this is definitely going to be a warts-and-all kind of journey.
Thanks for coming along. Also, I will just throw out there, if you are reading anything I've written and have questions, suggestions, or I'm doing something totally wrong. Please, please PLEASE comment, email, smoke signals, whatever! Let me know.
